Millsaps Women’s Basketball Beats Southwestern 65-43

The Millsaps College women’s basketball team defeated Southwestern University 65-43 Friday at the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Mississippi. The Majors improved to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.

Millsaps took control early, opening the game with a 15-4 lead after the first quarter. Senior Elyse Warren led the team with a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 19 rebounds. Junior Bailey Johnson contributed 17 points, including five three-pointers, while classmate Garin Freeman added 12 points and seven assists. Freeman also recorded three steals. Junior Tia Anderson posted nine points and seven rebounds, providing steady support.

The Majors maintained their lead throughout the game. Johnson’s hot shooting helped extend the advantage in the second quarter, as she made three three-pointers to help push the halftime score to 34-17. Millsaps continued to control the game in the third quarter, finishing with a 51-28 advantage. The team held on in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
