Millsaps Women’s Basketball Beats Centre 80-57 in Conference Play

The Millsaps women’s basketball team defeated Centre College 80-57 inside The Hangar Dome on Friday. Millsaps improved to 16-6 overall and 7-4 in Southern Athletic Association play, while Centre fell to 18-5 and 8-4 in conference.

The Majors dominated in the paint, scoring 46 points and forcing 18 turnovers from the Colonels, which led to 17 points. Millsaps outscored Centre 49-29 in the second half to secure the win.

Junior Tia Anderson led the way with a career-high 27 points, adding a double-double. She shot 10-of-18 from the field, including three three-pointers, and made four free throws. Junior Garin Freeman scored 22 points, dished out 11 assists, and shot 8-of-13 from the field. Freeman is ranked third in NCAA Division III women’s basketball with 135 assists this season.

Senior Elyse Warren contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds, earning her 17th double-double of the season, tying her for sixth in NCAA Division III. Senior Maddy Maw scored a career-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, along with two steals and a block.

The game started with Millsaps taking an early lead, thanks to Anderson’s early three-pointer and a layup from her at 8:30. The Majors maintained a slight edge through the first quarter, ending with a 17-12 lead after Anderson’s late three-pointer.

In the second quarter, Centre trimmed Millsaps’s lead to 31-28 at halftime. Key plays included Warren’s layup and Anderson’s jumper, with the Colonels making a late push with a jumper and a three-pointer before the break.

Millsaps dominated the third quarter, outscoring Centre 25-12. Anderson and Freeman fueled the offense with multiple layups, and Warren added to the lead with a layup assisted by Maw. The Majors led 56-40 going into the final period.

The team continued to extend its advantage in the fourth quarter, with Maw hitting a three-pointer and Freeman’s layup putting Millsaps ahead 60-43. Anderson’s late three-pointer sealed the victory.
