Millsaps Tennis Teams Split Weekend Matches Against Rhodes and Rust Colleges
The Millsaps College men’s and women’s tennis programs faced Rhodes College and Rust College over the weekend at the Coach Montgomery Courts in Jackson, Mississippi.
On Saturday, the Majors fell to Rhodes, 7-0. The men’s team struggled in singles and doubles, with Sam Tuli and Jon Nguyen nearly securing wins in singles matches. Tuli lost in a third-set tiebreaker after winning the first set, and Nguyen also pushed his match to a tiebreaker before falling.
In doubles, the team of Bonovich and Miloi defeated Nguyen and Tuli 6-1. The men’s team suffered defeats in all singles matches, with Christian Mainella and Owen Fellrath winning their respective matches for Rhodes.
The following day, the Majors rebounded against Rust College, winning 6-1 in men’s doubles and taking five of six singles matches. Anderson Causey was perfect in his singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Sam Tuli and Nguyen both dropped only two and three games, respectively.
The women’s team also faced Rhodes on Saturday, suffering a 7-0 loss. Skylar Spinks pushed her singles match to a 7-5 first set but ultimately lost. The doubles team of Oliver and McClain secured a win on Court 1, but the team fell short overall.
On Sunday, the women’s team tied Rust College 3-3. They secured the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2 and received a forfeit on Court 3. In singles, Graham, Trible, and others secured victories, while some matches resulted in forfeit or close contests.
