Millsaps Tennis Teams Split Season-Opening Weekend Results
Jackson, Mississippi – Millsaps College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams faced challenging opponents in their season-opening road trip this past weekend. The men lost both matches to Blue Mountain Christian and Huntingdon, while the women split their matches, falling to Blue Mountain Christian but defeating Huntingdon.
In the men’s matches, the team was defeated 7-0 by Blue Mountain Christian and 5-2 by Huntingdon. Sebastian Gonzalez nearly secured a point in the loss to Blue Mountain, winning the second set before narrowly losing the tiebreaker, according to team sources.
Match results show Blue Mountain Christian’s dominance in doubles and singles. Engelbrecht and Kotze won all their singles matches, with Kotze dropping only a 7-5 decision in the second set. Against Huntingdon, Millsaps took two doubles matches, with Tuli and Schiaffino winning 6-3 and Gonzalez and Causey securing a 6-4 victory. However, the singles matches favored Huntingdon, with the Wildcats taking five of six.
The women’s team experienced a tough loss to Blue Mountain Christian, 6-1, but rebounded strongly against Huntingdon, winning 6-1. Riley McClain earned the only singles win for Millsaps, rallying from a first-set loss to beat Eugenia Ramos in three sets, including a tie-breaker.
In doubles, the women swept all three matches, with Bella-Bennett and Trible winning a three-set thriller. The singles victories for the women included Oliver, McClain, Smith, Spinks, and Trible, who all won in straight sets, according to team reports.
