Millsaps Tennis Falls to Centre and Sewanee in Weekend Matches
The Millsaps College men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted Centre College and Sewanee at the Coach Montgomery Courts on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers, ranked nationally, swept both teams, winning all matches and losing only one game in the process.
In the women’s match against Centre on Saturday, Millsaps lost 4-0. Skylar Spinks won her first singles set and was tied 1-1 in the second when her match was unfinished. Millsaps’s doubles teams also faced tough defeats, with Black and Smith losing 6-2 and Watson and Franklin dropping a 6-0 match. Centre’s Grace Williams and Olivia Watson earned straight-set victories in singles.
The following day, Millsaps faced No. 30 Sewanee in a 7-0 loss. Riley McClain and Bella-Bennett Graham were the top performers for the Majors, winning the most points in singles. Sewanee’s doubles teams won comfortably, with Lee and Foster defeating Millsaps 6-1 and High and Barbee winning 6-0.
On the men’s side, Millsaps opened with a 6-1 loss to Centre. Sam Tuli highlighted the match by winning his singles and doubles matches, teaming with Jon Nguyen for a doubles victory. Centre’s Tyler Rueff and Isaac Flanery posted straight-set wins in singles, clinching the team victory.
The men’s team’s Sunday match against Sewanee proved even more challenging, ending in a 4-0 defeat. Jon Nguyen was competitive in singles, winning the first set before the match was left unfinished. Sewanee’s doubles teams and singles players dominated, with several matches ending by retirement or unfinished status.
