Millsaps Sweeps Owls Softball in Non-Conference Doubleheader

Millsaps College swept Mississippi University for Women in a non-conference softball doubleheader Saturday in Columbus, with scores of 5-2 and 7-3. The Majors improved to 7-2 this season, while the Owls fell to 4-7, marking their fifth consecutive loss to Millsaps.

In the first game, MUW took a brief lead after a sixth-inning rally sparked by four consecutive singles from Gillion Eaves, Madison York, Addison Owen, and Brooklyn Rhodes. A bases-loaded walk to Kaylee Crawford put the Owls ahead 2-1. However, errors in the seventh inning led to four unearned runs for Millsaps, who won 5-2. Trinity Garvin pitched the complete game but was charged with five runs, all unearned, due to the Owls’ five errors.

The second game saw Millsaps build a 7-0 lead through five innings. MUW responded with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Rhodes and a ground-out RBI by MC Brown. The Owls scored again on a walk and a throwing error, but fell 7-3. Owen was the losing pitcher after allowing five runs in 1.1 innings. Rhodes pitched 3.2 innings of relief, striking out four, while Rachel Etheridge added two scoreless innings.

The series concludes the teams’ back-to-back matchups in Jackson and Columbus, with MUW unlikely to face the Majors again during the 2026 regular season, according to team sources.
