Millsaps Softball Sweeps Sewanee in Conference Series

The Millsaps College softball team swept Sewanee in Tennessee over the weekend, winning all three games of the series. The Majors defeated the Tigers 9-2 and 4-0 on Saturday before finishing with an 11-2 win in six innings Sunday at Tiger Softball Field, according to school officials.

With the victories, Millsaps improves to 20-9 overall and 6-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. The team now shares first place in the conference standings with Sewanee, which fell to 12-22 and 1-11 in league play.

In Saturday’s opener, Millsaps’s Ella Morgan Sears contributed both offensively and defensively. She stole two bases and hit a double, helping the Majors to a 9-2 victory. Sophomore Hailey Marange pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and one earned run over seven innings. The Madisonville, Louisiana native earned her ninth win of the season.

The second game saw Allana Vasquez lead the offense, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Vasquez also threw a strong game at the plate, with two stolen bases and one run scored. Millsaps secured the win with a 4-0 shutout, maintaining their dominance on the road.

The series concluded Sunday with an 11-2 victory in six innings. Junior Julie Amacher earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing three hits. Offensively, Liza Gregg led with a home run and three RBIs, while Cannon and Mathis contributed with key hits and runs. Gregg’s three-run homer in the sixth sealed the game for Millsaps.
