Millsaps Softball Sweeps MUW in Weekend Doubleheader, Extends Winning Streak

The Millsaps College softball team swept MUW in a doubleheader Saturday at The Don Usher Softball Field in Columbus, Mississippi. The Majors won the first game 5-2 and the second 7-3, moving their overall record to 9-2 and extending their winning streak to seven games, according to team sources.

In the opener, Millsaps secured victory with a four-run seventh inning. Sophomore Hailey Marange pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on 25 batters. She issued one walk and recorded nine groundouts to six flyouts. Junior Julie Amacher pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one. Allana Vasquez led the offense with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Caroline Mathis added two hits and threw out a baserunner attempting to steal.

The game remained tied until the seventh when Millsaps took control. A walk, a single, and an error loaded the bases for Vasquez, who doubled to drive in three runs. An error by MUW allowed another unearned run, sealing the 5-2 victory for Millsaps.

In the second game, Vasquez pitched five scoreless innings, facing 19 batters. Mathis scored twice and made four assists from third base. Sears contributed with one hit, two RBIs, and a double. Arena added two doubles and an RBI, finishing with two hits.

Millsaps scored five runs in the first two innings, capitalizing on four MUW errors. The team totaled 12 hits, including five doubles. The scoring began with errors and timely hitting, with Peterson’s two-RBI double in the first inning. They added two more runs in the second and continued to build their lead until MUW scored three runs in the sixth. Millsaps held on for the 7-3 win.
