Millsaps College Names Michael Azzarone as Assistant Soccer Coach

MILLSAPS COLLEGE — Millsaps College has named Michael Azzarone as an assistant coach for its men’s soccer team, part of the program’s ongoing growth efforts, the school announced Friday.

Azzarone previously spent one season as an assistant coach with Wachusett United FC, a youth soccer club in Central Massachusetts. He helped develop players technically, physically, and mentally while ensuring sessions ran smoothly and kept players engaged, according to the college.

In August 2025, Azzarone served as a sports analytics intern at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts, where he tracked and organized game statistics for fall and winter sports. He also reviewed game footage to identify key moments for teams.

He played two seasons for NCAA Division III Anna Maria College as a forward and defender. Additionally, Azzarone worked as a Soccer Shots coach in 2025, starting as an assistant before being promoted to lead coach, overseeing youth player development.

From August 2018 to December 2024, Azzarone was a referee for the New Jersey Referee Association, serving as both an assistant and center referee to ensure safe and productive environments for players.

Azzarone earned his bachelor’s degree in data analytics from Anna Maria College in December 2025, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. He was also involved in the college’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a student ambassador. His involvement with Jersey Shore Boca and Lacey Soccer Clubs continues to shape his coaching career.

Azzarone plans to pursue a master’s degree at Millsaps College while managing the men’s soccer program. The college, founded in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1890, is a liberal arts institution known for academic excellence and social engagement. Millsaps has received recognition from organizations including U.S. News & World Report and Forbes Magazine.
