Millsaps Baseball Falls to Alma 10-8 After Errors
Jackson, Miss. — The Millsaps College baseball team dropped a 10-8 decision to Alma College on Tuesday, unable to overcome a series of defensive errors. Despite a strong offensive showing, errors proved costly in the late innings, according to team sources.
Freshman Hudson Moberly and senior EJ Ousley each went 3-for-5, with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Fred Fields pitched 1.2 innings of relief, striking out one batter without allowing a hit or walk. Sam Thomas and Christian Kretzer also drove in two runs apiece for the Majors.
Alma scored early, putting up five runs in the first inning. The Scots added a run in the third for a 6-0 lead. Millsaps responded in the bottom of the third, with Ousley and Moberly each singling, advancing Ousley to third. Thomas then tripled into right field, bringing home Ousley and Moberly to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Scots scored again in the fourth before Millsaps responded with a rally. Carr was hit by a pitch, then Williams tripled to right-center, scoring Carr. Kretzer singled, driving in Williams and making the score 7-4. The Majors committed three errors in the fifth, allowing Alma to score two more runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Millsaps scored three runs. Kretzer’s groundout brought home Carr, Temple tripled to left center to score Williams, and Ousley added a run with a hit that scored Temple. Alma scored once in the seventh to lead 10-7. Millsaps loaded the bases and scored another run on Moberly’s single, but the Scots escaped with a strikeout and groundout. Alma later committed an error in the ninth but held on for the win.
The two teams will meet again Thursday at Twenty Field at 4 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com, according to school officials. Millsaps is a liberal arts college founded in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1890, known for academic excellence and regional influence.
