Michael James Scores 34 as Mississippi Valley Falls to Bethune-Cookman
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Michael James scored 34 points to lead Mississippi Valley State, but it wasn’t enough as the Delta Devils fell 79-63 to Bethune-Cookman in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game at R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
James was the top scorer for Mississippi Valley State, tying his personal best with 11 made baskets, including five three-pointers. He also led the team with four assists and three steals, according to the school’s statistics.
The Delta Devils dropped to 1-18 overall and 0-5 in SWAC play. Bethune-Cookman improved to 6-11 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Wildcats hold an 8-1 series lead over Mississippi Valley State, with their last win over the Delta Devils dating back to December 1980.
Chance Sutton contributed six rebounds and two steals for Mississippi Valley State, while Patrick Punch scored 10 points and tied James for team-high assists with four. The team is preparing to host Florida A&M on Saturday at 7 p.m., according to school officials.
