Michael James Named BOXTOROW First Team HBCU All-American

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball player Michael James has been named to the BOXTOROW First Team HBCU All-American, the school announced Monday.

The junior guard from Byhalia, Mississippi, received several honors this season, including SWAC Newcomer of the Year and All-SWAC First Team. James also won six conference weekly awards during the 2025-26 season.

James transferred from Meridian Community College and ranked among the national leaders in multiple categories. He was in the top 15 nationally for free throw percentage (90.4%), points per game (21.4), minutes per game (36:48), total points (685), field goals made (240), and field goal attempts (549).

He also ranked highly in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in field goal percentage (43.7%), steals per game (1.75), free throws made (123), and total steals (56). Additionally, James led the league in three-point percentage (34%), three-pointers per game (2.56), and total three-pointers (82).
