Memphis beats Ole Miss 6-2 to split season series
Memphis defeated Ole Miss 6-2 in a Tuesday night game in Memphis. The Rebels, now 19-7, saw Collin Reuter reach base three times, with two singles and a walk, and score a run, according to the university.
Owen Kelly started on the mound for Ole Miss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs. Memphis pitcher Jacob Dienes earned the win for the Tigers, who improved to 7-16 this season.
Ole Miss opened the scoring in the game. Dom Decker recorded the first hit for the Rebels, then advanced to third on a single. Owen Paino then hit a fly to center, scoring Decker and giving Ole Miss an early lead. Memphis responded in the fourth inning with a sacrifice bunt followed by a line drive to left field that brought in two runs.
The Tigers extended their lead in the fifth inning with a two-run homer. Reuter added to Ole Miss’ total in the seventh with his 33rd run of the season. Pacella’s groundout RBI in the same inning reduced Memphis’s lead to two runs.
Memphis scored two insurance runs in the eighth, including a solo homer from Michael Gupton. Ole Miss threatened in the same inning but was shut down after a strikeout following a reversed call at first base.
The Rebels will host Mississippi State this weekend, starting Friday afternoon. Ole Miss continues its season with upcoming games against Mississippi State, Florida, LSU, and Tennessee, among others, according to their schedule.
