Marcos Fernandez Named UMAC South Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Columbus, Miss. — Columbus State junior Marcos Fernandez has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South Division Player of the Week for men’s tennis, the school announced.
Fernandez, a transfer from Wallace State Community College, won both of his singles matches last week. Playing the No. 5 singles position, he secured straight-set victories in each match. He defeated Greenville University’s Francisco Trujillo Garcia, 6-2, 6-2, and then beat Webster University’s Shawn Smith, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, Fernandez split his matches, losing to Greenville and then winning at No. 2 doubles against Webster. His season record improves to 9-2 in singles and 8-3 in doubles, according to school officials.
