Madison Sawyer Named MACCC Pitcher of the Week

Jackson — Jones College freshman pitcher Madison Sawyer was named MACCC Pitcher of the Week after a dominant start to her collegiate career. The Saraland, Alabama, native went 2-0 during the first week of the season, including a win over No. 3 St. Johns River State College.

Sawyer pitched seven innings in the victory, allowing one run on one hit, walking two batters and striking out 11. She also threw four innings in a 10-0, five-inning win over Bishop State, permitting one hit and striking out six.

For the week, Sawyer totaled 11 innings pitched, with 17 strikeouts, three walks, and an earned run average of 0.64. Jones College improved to 7-1 overall and is set to compete at the Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Feb. 13-14, according to school officials.
