Louisiana Tech edges Southern Miss softball in rubber match

RUSTON, La. — Louisiana Tech defeated Southern Miss 4-1 Sunday in a pitcher’s duel at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. The Bulldogs improved to 12-3, while the Golden Eagles fell to 7-8.

Allie Floyd pitched a complete game for LA Tech, earning her fourth win of the season. Floyd’s performance included a stretch of three consecutive strikeouts in the second inning. Kayla Giardina started for Southern Miss but took the loss, dropping to 3-2.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Louisiana Tech scored three runs on back-to-back RBI hits by Bradi Gallaway and Elena Heng. Gallaway led the Bulldogs with two RBIs, while Heng added one. Louisiana Tech’s defense also played a key role, with Floyd tossing a complete game and limiting Southern Miss to three hits.

Southern Miss attempted a late rally in the top of the seventh, with Abbi Troquille leading off with a single and advancing on a passed ball. However, the Golden Eagles failed to capitalize, recording three outs in succession to end the game.

Notables from the game include Nealy McManus, who is tied for 45th nationally in RBIs and leads the Sun Belt with three sacrifice flies. Madison Johnson is tied for first in the league with three triples. Hannah Christian and Carrie Green each stole five bases without being caught. The Golden Eagles lead the Sun Belt with nine sacrifice flies and boast a .980 fielding percentage.
