Louisiana Tech Defeats Southern Miss Softball in Series Opener
RUSTON, La. — Southern Miss softball fell to Louisiana Tech 8-0 in the second game of the weekend series Saturday at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. The Bulldogs’ Bryannah Campos earned her first complete game, allowing only one hit.
Louisiana Tech jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Rosalie Dufresne delivered a two-out, two-RBI single that put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0. Natalie Herrington replaced Olivia Christian in the circle for Southern Miss but the Bulldogs continued to add on.
The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the third inning on two bases-loaded walks, pushing their lead to 5-0. Southern Miss managed limited offense, with Abbi Troquille breaking up Campos’ no-hitter with a single in the fifth inning. Louisiana Tech extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth, with a bases-clearing double from Aleah Brooks sealing the mercy rule victory.
The Golden Eagles used four pitchers in the game, a strategy they’ve employed twice this season. The teams will face off again Sunday at noon to determine the series winner, which is currently tied at 1-1.
Southern Miss will look to even the series in the finale. The Golden Eagles plan to send their starters to the mound as they seek their first win over Louisiana Tech this season.
