Lincoln (Pennsylvania) Tops Mississippi Valley State in HBCU Classic Finale
The Lincoln (Pennsylvania) Lions scored six unanswered runs to rally past Mississippi Valley State 6-2 in the final game of the HBCU Celebration Classic, held at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama.
Mississippi Valley State scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. However, Lincoln responded with a strong offensive effort, scoring the final six runs of the game.
Hailey Akers led the Diamond Devilettes with two of their four hits, including a double and a single, while driving in a run. Madison Bruce pitched the last four innings for Mississippi Valley State, striking out seven and allowing just two runs over four base runners. Michelle Diaz maintained her on-base streak through all five games in Montgomery, reaching safely twice via walks and scoring once.
Jamiyah Gary added a two-bagger and drew a walk, while Taniya Partee contributed a single, walk, and a run scored. Mississippi Valley State drops to 1-8 overall and remains winless in SWAC play. Lincoln improves to 3-2 overall and is unranked in CIAA standings.
