Lady Bears fall to Pearl River Wildcats in home game
Southwest Mississippi Women’s Basketball hosted Pearl River on Monday, suffering a 71-48 defeat. The Lady Bears started slowly, scoring just five points in the first quarter and trailing 14-5.
Five different players scored in the second quarter, but the team still faced a 34-15 deficit at halftime. The Wildcats maintained their lead through the third quarter, despite Southwest’s efforts to close the gap.
The Lady Bears ignited their offense early in the third quarter with three consecutive three-pointers from Talana Bond, Mady Smith, and Gracie Miller. Despite the surge, Pearl River kept their advantage, leading 56-34 entering the final period.
Southwest added three more three-pointers in the fourth quarter, including two from Laci Buchanan, but the Wildcats’ large lead proved insurmountable. Mady Smith led the team with 10 points, followed by Buchanan with nine, all from beyond the arc.
The Lady Bears, now 7-18 overall and 3-9 in conference, are scheduled to play at Meridian Community College on Thursday, February 26.
