Jones splits baseball doubleheader with Co-Lin after walk-off win and no-hitter

WESSON, Miss. — Jones College and Copiah-Lincoln College split a doubleheader Wednesday at Walter R. Sullivan Field. The Wolves edged the Bobcats 4-3 in the opener before Jones responded with a 14-0, five-inning no-hitter in the nightcap, according to school reports.

Jones moved to 29-10 overall and 12-4 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference. Co-Lin went to 24-15 and 9-7 in league play. The Bobcats are scheduled to travel to East Mississippi for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.

In the first game, Co-Lin took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jones answered in the second with a run on a double by Gage Reeves and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Dakota Smith. The Wolves tied the game in the third on Trey Davidson’s RBI-double. Co-Lin went ahead in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt by Donovan Moore, scoring Evan Holifield. Jones tied it in the eighth on Reeves’ groundout, but Davidson’s walk-off RBI-triple in the ninth gave Co-Lin the win.

The Wolves outhit Jones 11-4, with multiple hits from Bryson Jones, Moore, Davidson, and Holifield. Nash Sturdivant earned the win in relief, while Trevor Hodges suffered his first loss of the season for Jones.

In the second game, Jones exploded for eight runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Chase Russell’s leadoff home run. The Bobcats continued their offensive barrage with multi-run innings in the third, fourth, and fifth, totaling 14 runs on 14 hits. Dylan Champagne and Sanders Ainsworth each drove in three runs, with Russell scoring three times and driving in three RBIs.

Brayson Graham pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight and walking five. His dominant performance helped Jones complete the sweep and improve their record for the season.
