Jones softball team wins three of four at Coastal Coyote Classic
Gulf Shores, Ala. — The Jones softball team went 3-1 at the Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex over the weekend. The No. 4 Bobcats improved to 10-2 overall with their performance.
Jones opened Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Southern Union State. During that game, third-year head coach Tori Dew earned her 100th career win in her 127th game. Morgan Landry pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Bobcats, while Anna Grace Whitehead tossed 3.1 innings, allowing one hit. Abigail Lindsey finished the game, earning her first win as a Bobcat after pitching 3.2 innings.
Jones also defeated Enterprise State 5-0 behind Landry’s shutout. However, the team dropped a 5-3 decision to Gulf Coast State later that day. Offensively, Mary Kimble Price went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Claire Andersen also went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot.
Madison Sawyer capped the weekend with a five-inning no-hitter against No. 15 Central Alabama. She struck out four and walked four batters while going 2-for-3 at the plate, with a double and a triple.
Jones is scheduled to play at Shelton State on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
