Jones College Women’s Tennis Tops Mississippi Gulf Coast 8-1
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — Jones College’s women’s tennis team secured an 8-1 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The win improves Jones to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
The Bobcats swept all three doubles matches, with Heidi Clayton and Theresa Emelio defeating Victoria Ros Fabuel and Isona Arnaus 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Camila Piquín and Maria Martinez earned an 8-2 win over Paige Baronich and Pia Pugliese at No. 2 doubles, while Katlin Porcello and Josie Tullos edged Meredith Matthews and Katelyn Walker 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Piquín defeated Arnaus 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1. Clayton dominated Pugliese 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, and Emelio beat Baronich 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Porcello completed a shutout, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Walker at No. 5. Caroline Kilpatrick defeated Rogers 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6. Martinez fell in a close match to Ros Fabuel 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 3.
Jones is scheduled to host No. 13 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Thursday for the final match before spring break.
