Jones College tops Southwest in men’s tennis, 8-1
ELLISVILLE — The 13th-ranked Jones College Bobcats defeated No. 23 Southwest 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
In doubles action, Tom Garrett of Australia and Juan Francisco Pereyra of Argentina won the No. 1 match for Jones, 8-1, over Juan Luca Cividini and Juan Manuel Riano. Ridge Jones of Northeast Jones and Felipe Morales of Ecuador defeated Thomas Simpson and Manan Kumar, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles. Luke Westmoreland of Grenada and Ryan Roth of Resurrection Catholic blanked Taylor Allen and Robert Read, 8-0, in No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Garrett beat Cividini, 6-2, 6-4. Pereyra rallied past Kumar, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. Morales defeated Riano, 6-2, 6-0, and Westmoreland topped Beard, 6-2, 6-0. Roth beat Allen, 6-1, 6-3. Nicholas Marengo of Forrest County AHS lost to an opponent in a three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 0-1 (7-10).
The Bobcats are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference. They are scheduled to play at No. 18 Meridian at 11 a.m. Friday.
