Jones College tennis team wins sixth straight region title, remains undefeated

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — Maria Martinez secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles to help Jones College defeat Copiah-Lincoln 5-0 and claim the NJCAA Region 23 Championship Saturday afternoon. The win gives Jones an automatic bid to the national tournament in Sumter, South Carolina, from May 2 to 6. It marks the team’s 22nd all-time appearance in the event.

Jones also swept all three doubles matches. Maria Martinez and Camila Piquín won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Jones secured 8-5 wins at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Theresa Emelio defeated Ady Locke 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, clinching the victory for the Bobcats. Minutes later, Martinez’s win sealed the title.

The team finished the season with a perfect 16-0 record and extended its winning streak to 58 matches dating back to April 2023. The Bobcats have now won six consecutive regional titles.
