Jones College tennis team dominates Holmes 9-0
The Jones College Bobcats extended their undefeated streak with a 9-0 win over Holmes on Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex, according to school officials.
In doubles play, Tom Garrett of Australia and Juan Francisco Pereyra of Argentina defeated Andrew Merrell and Gage Smith 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles match. Ridge Jones of Northeast Jones and Felipe Morales of Ecuador won the No. 2 doubles match 8-0 against Alexas Janos and Adison Johnson. Ryan Roth of Resurrection Catholic and Reese Touchet of Madison Central defeated Noah Johnson and Micah Guttery, 8-0, in No. 3 doubles.
Pereyra also claimed a singles victory, beating Wyatt Dyess 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Garrett topped Merrell 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Morales defeated Janos 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, and Jones beat Smith 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. Luke Westmoreland of Grenada defeated Guttery 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, while Roth defeated Johnson 6-0, 6-1 in No. 6 singles.
Additional matches saw Crews Cockrell of West Jones blank Johnsson 6-0, 6-0, and Nicholas Marengo of Forrest County AHS beat Matthew Melton 8-0.
The Bobcats are scheduled to play No. 16 Copiah-Lincoln at 11 a.m. Friday and host No. 11 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Monday, according to officials.
