Jones College Tennis Opens 2026 Season with 9-0 Win Over Bevill State
ELLISVILLE — Jones College’s tennis team began the 2026 season with a 9-0 shutout against Bevill State on Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats dominated all nine matches, securing victories in both doubles and singles play. In No. 1 doubles, Theresa Emelio of Australia and Heidi Clayton of New Albany defeated Jasmine Rivera and Ella Thrasher, 8-0. Camila Piquín and Maria Martinez, both from Argentina, won 8-0 over Oriana Roldan and Lila Oliver in No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County beat Ady Preston and Kynley Williams, 8-2.
In singles, Piquín secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Preston in No. 1. Martinez also won easily, defeating Thrasher 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Clayton swept Rivera, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. Emelio defeated Roldan 6-0, 6-4, in No. 4. Porcello beat Williams 6-1, 6-3, in No. 5, and Tullos topped Oliver 6-1, 6-0, in No. 6 singles.
Additional matches saw Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven beat Ruby Smith, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, and Emily Rogers of West Jones defeat Zoie McGuirk, 6-0, 6-1.
The Bobcats are scheduled to scrimmage at Mississippi College on Feb. 6 before resuming regular season play against Oxford-Emory in Meridian on Feb. 14, according to school officials.
