Jones College Sweeps Reid State, Extends Winning Streak to Eight Games

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — Jones College rallied for a 5-4 victory in the opener and then scored 19 runs in a run-rule win to sweep Reid State on Friday at Community Bank Park.

The Bobcats, now 10-1, have won eight straight games since a 27-6 loss to No. 3 East Central in their home opener. Reid State, in just its second season, fell to 5-4.

In the first game, Jones trailed 3-2 in the fifth inning and was down to its last eight outs. Chase Russell homered to tie the game, and Brayden Quick’s infield single gave Jones the lead for good. Russell also put the Bobcats ahead early with a two-run double in the first inning. Garrett West’s single and sacrifice fly for Reid State tied and briefly gave the Lions the lead, but Russell’s home run in the bottom of the fifth tied the game again.

Talan Theriot went 3-for-4 and added an RBI-triple in the sixth to extend Jones’ lead. Russell pitched four innings for Jones, allowing one earned run with six strikeouts. Caden Freeman earned the win in relief, and Canyon Reeves recorded his first collegiate save.

In the second game, Jones scored eight runs in the first inning, highlighted by home runs from Sanders Ainsworth and Kelan Guidry. The Bobcats continued to pour it on, with double by Russell and RBI singles from Theriot and Walker Long making it 16-1 after three innings. Russell and Guidry each drove in four RBIs, leading 11 different players with at least one hit. Colton Smith improved to 4-0, pitching four innings with six strikeouts and no earned runs, extending his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings this season.

Reid State’s Reid Gaston pitched the top of the fifth for Jones, in his second appearance for the team. Jones heads to Raymond on Tuesday for games against the host Eagles and East Mississippi Community College.
