Jones College Softball Rises to No. 2 in NJCAA Poll After Winning Streak

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jones College softball team improved to No. 2 in the NJCAA Week 1 poll after going 7-0 last week. The Bobcats swept Shelton State and won five games at the JUCO Extravaganza at Choccolocco Park, according to the NJCAA.

Jones was ranked fourth in the preseason poll. The team has recorded five shutouts this season and is riding a nine-game winning streak. They hold a 4-1 record against Top 25 opponents.

Freshman Chloe Jenkins and sophomore Claire Andersen lead the team with batting averages of .474 and .471, respectively. Freshman Mary Kimble Price has hit six home runs and driven in 25 RBIs. Jenkins also leads with eight doubles, while Andersen has stolen 25 bases in 28 attempts, putting her on pace to challenge the all-time JC record of 85 held by Kelsha Loftin.

All five Bobcat pitchers have earned wins this season. Freshman Madison Sawyer is 6-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 38 strikeouts. Breelyn Cain and Morgan Landry are both 4-1 on the mound.

Jones returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader at Coastal Alabama-South beginning at 1 p.m., according to team officials.
