Jones College Softball Looks to Sustain Success in 2026
ELLISVILLE — Jones College softball is setting high expectations for the 2026 season. The Bobcats, ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA preseason poll, finished as Division II runner-up in 2025 with a 52-10 record, under head coach Tori Dew.
Dew, now in her third year, has led Jones to a 91-25 record. She emphasized the team’s focus on maintaining standards. “The standard remains the same: win games,” she said. “We’ve recruited players who can carry on the tradition of representing Jones College. When they understand it’s bigger than themselves, the tradition lives on.”
The team returns 10 players from last season and added two transfers, including catchers Annaston Tate and Abigail Lindsey. Key returners include outfielders Claire Andersen, Laney Little, Farrah James, and infielders Marlee Dampeer, Reagan Dale, and Lillian Evans. Pitchers Breelyn Cain, Anna Grace Whitehead, and Mikayla Baumgartner are also back, along with other transfers and freshmen bringing new talent to the roster.
Dew expressed confidence in the roster’s versatility and team chemistry. “I love that we have balance as far as experience and new faces,” she said. “Our players are blending well, and this diversity gives us a competitive edge in various game situations.”
The team has participated in several fall matchups and intensive spring practices. Dew noted the team’s growth and potential. “Each player is pushing their limits, and I see a team capable of great things this season,” she said.
Jones will compete in three tournaments in February, including events in Florida and Alabama. Dew highlighted the importance of these competitions for team development. “Playing against teams that have competed in the World Series gives us valuable experience and prepares us for top-level competition,” she said.
The Bobcats are among five MACCC teams ranked in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll. Defending champion Copiah-Lincoln is No. 2, with Jones at No. 4. Dew acknowledged the strength of the league, noting top programs like Co-Lin, Pearl River, and Itawamba.
Returning assistant coaches Parker Conrad and Drew Fiala will support Dew this season. Dew praised her staff, especially Conrad, in her third year, and Fiala, in his third year, for their contributions to the team’s success. “They are dedicated and integral to our program,” she said.
The team opens its season on Feb. 2 with a doubleheader at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field against Bishop State.
