Jones College remains undefeated with 9-0 tennis win over Holmes

ELLISVILLE — No. 7 Jones College extended its unbeaten streak with a 9-0 win over Holmes State Community College Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats moved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).

Jones College secured the victory with strong performances across doubles and singles matches. Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Theresa Emelio from Australia teamed up to win 8-0 over Terri Cain and Makayla McDaniel at No. 1 doubles. Maria Martinez and Camila Piquín, both from Argentina, defeated Faith Arbuckle and Hannah Gilbert, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Josie Tullos of Newton County and Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove beat Callie Neal and Makayla Lay, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Piquín handled Cain with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1. Martinez defeated Arbuckle, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Emelio beat McDaniel, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. Porcello won over Gilbert, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Tullos defeated Neal, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven won against Lay, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. An additional match saw Emily Rogers of West Jones beat Kazzye Wood, 6-0, 6-0.

Jones is scheduled to visit 18th-ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College for an 11 a.m. match Friday.
