Jones College Men’s Tennis Completes Perfect MACCC Season with Win Over Itawamba
Fulton, Miss. — Jones College’s men’s tennis team wrapped up its MACCC schedule with a 9-0 victory over No. 19 Itawamba on Tuesday at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts. The Bobcats improved to 14-1 overall and will face No. 8 Wallace State-Hanceville at 1 p.m. Saturday in Meridian for their regular-season finale.
Jones will host the men’s Region 23 Tournament April 16-18 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex, according to school officials.
In doubles action, Tom Garrett (Australia) and Juan Francisco Pereyra (Australia) claimed an 8-1 win over Josue Segrelles Tronchoni and Kole Kusek in No. 1 doubles. Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and Felipe Morales (Argentina) defeated Andrea Cattaneo and Andrej Tasevski, 8-6, in No. 2 doubles. Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) and Reese Touchet (Madison Central) topped Jacob Christ and Matthew Durrett, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles.
Pereyra rallied past Tronchoni in singles, winning 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0, while Garrett defeated Cattaneo, 6-4, 6-4. Morales dominated Tasevski, 6-1, 6-1, and Jones beat Kusek, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) defeated Christ, 6-1, 6-3, and Crews Cockrell (West Jones) blanked Durrett, 6-0, 6-0.
