Jones College Finishes Fifth at Lou Hart Invitational
MERIDIAN — Jones College finished fifth in the Lou Hart Invitational at Northwood Country Club on Tuesday. The Bobcats posted a team total of 599, with scores of 296 and 303 over two rounds. After the first round on Monday, Jones was tied for third.
Mississippi Gulf Coast edged Meridian by one stroke to claim the team title, shooting a 577. Hinds Community College finished third with a 582, followed by Northeast Mississippi with a 596. The tournament was the final regular-season event for the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Freshman Julius Hautmann of Germany led Jones with a 70-75—145, finishing tied for seventh place. Sophomore Drew Groscost of Lewisburg shot a 70-77—147. Freshman Matthew Eubank, competing as an individual, posted a 74-77—151. Other Jones competitors included sophomore Josh Tombs, who scored 78-75—153, and freshmen Bastian Graf and Walker Hall, with scores of 78-78—156 and 85-79—164, respectively.
Individually, Meridian’s Daniel Young and Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Jayden Owensby tied for medalist honors with a playoff hole deciding the winner. Young shot a 69-69—138 (4-under par), while Owensby carded a 64-74—138. Young claimed medalist honors after the playoff. Hinds’ Stephen Faucheaux, Meridian’s Jace Ducksworth, and Hinds’ Christopher Cain made the All-Tournament Team.
The Bobcats are scheduled to compete in the Calhoun Spring Classic at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Alabama, on March 30-31. The MACCC Championship will be held April 13-14 at The Club at Ole Brook in Brookhaven.
