Jones College Baseball Sweeps East Central with Late-Inning Heroics

ELLISVILLE — Jones College defeated East Central in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday at The Bank, improving to 24-5 overall and 3-1 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.

In the first game, Madison Sawyer pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one run while striking out nine. Mabry Eason’s three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth broke a 1-1 tie and helped Jones secure a 5-1 victory. Eason’s RBI-single in the fifth inning also contributed to the win, as Addy Shorter went 3-for-3 and Jones collected 10 hits overall.

“Eason’s homer was a big moment for us,” coach Alan Garner said. “Madison pitched a great game, and we played well offensively.”

In the second game, East Central led 3-0 after five innings. Jones responded with a four-run sixth, sparked by a solo homer from Mary Kimble Price and a three-run blast from Eason. Abigail Lindsey pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn her third win of the season. The Bobcats improved to 10-1 in her starts.

Jones will take a week off before traveling to No. 1 Pearl River on Wednesday, March 18, for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. The Bobcats aim to continue their winning streak against the top-ranked Wildcats.
