Jackson State’s Corbalan, Hernandez Earn SWAC Weekly Tennis Honors
Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State’s Paula Corbalan and Helen Hernandez earned weekly awards from the Southwestern Athletic Conference on Wednesday, following strong performances last week.
Corbalan was named co-Player of the Week after going 3-1 during the weekend. Her most notable victory came against Bethune-Cookman, where she defeated the Wildcats’ top player 6-3, 6-3, helping Jackson State secure a shutout victory.
Hernandez, a transfer from Hinds Community College, was named Newcomer of the Week. She also posted a 3-1 record, including a win in doubles alongside Daniela Tovar and a singles victory in a 6-0, 7-5 decision that clinched the match for the Tigers against Florida A&M.
The Tigers will travel to Alabama for their final away match of the season, facing Alabama A&M on April 4 at 11 a.m., according to school officials.
