Jackson State Women’s Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Three with Victory at Alabama State
Jackson State’s women’s tennis team defeated Alabama State 4-2 on Sunday morning, extending their winning streak to three matches, according to team sources.
The Lady Tigers took an early lead in doubles play, with Isabella Benavides and Paula Corbalan winning their match 6-2. Tied at 1-1, the duo of Tiara Alvarez and Daniela Tovar earned the critical doubles point with a 7-6 victory.
Alabama State responded in singles, winning the first two matches to tie the score at 2-2. Jackson State’s Helen Hernandez then secured a win at number five singles, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-2. Benavides added another point for the Lady Tigers with a 7-6, 6-0 victory at the same position.
Corbalan clinched the match for Jackson State with a three-set win, 6-1, 0-6, 6-3, at number three singles. The Lady Tigers will return home to face Austin Peay on Thursday at 2 p.m., according to team officials.
