Jackson State Women’s Bowling Loses to Alabama State, Faces Alabama A&M in SWAC Semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas — Jackson State University’s women’s bowling team was defeated by Alabama State in the second round of the SWAC Bowling Tournament Saturday afternoon at the International Bowling Training and Research Center.

The Tigers opened the day with an 884-932 victory over the Hornets in traditional play. Alabama State responded in Baker format with a 987-932 win, tying the match at 1-1. The Hornets then took an early 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, putting Jackson State in a difficult position.

Despite a rally that saw the Tigers win two matches, Alabama State secured the series with a 4-2 victory. Jackson State’s season ended with the loss. Senior Faith Washington and sophomore Saida Lugo led the Tigers, with Washington posting a 204 average and 408 total pins, and Lugo finishing with a 197 average and 394 total pins.

The Tigers will now face Alabama A&M in a single-elimination semifinal series, with play beginning at 9 a.m. The winner will advance to face Alabama State in the championship match, which will be streamed on SWAC TV.
