Jackson State Women’s Basketball Falls to Arkansas-Pine Bluff 74-68
Jackson State women’s basketball team lost to Arkansas-Pine Bluff 74-68 Thursday evening in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Rhema Pegues and Mikayla Brown each recorded double-doubles for the Tigers, but it was not enough to secure the win.
Pegues scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading Jackson State in both categories. Brown contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Jada Patton added 13 points off the bench. The Tigers dished out 15 assists, with Pegues leading the team with five. Jackson State also forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 14 points, with Angel Wilkinson leading the team with four steals.
The Tigers struggled early, trailing 23-11 after the first quarter and 42-24 at halftime. UAPB extended its lead to 60-37 in the third quarter before Jackson State mounted a rally. The Tigers trimmed the deficit to 60-42 with about 50 seconds left in the third, and later cut the margin to 72-68 with 31 seconds remaining after a 9-0 run highlighted by Brown’s layup. However, UAPB responded with the final points of the game to secure the victory.
Jackson State played aggressively inside, scoring 12 of its 24 points in the paint. The team also dominated the rebounding battle, finishing with a 51-26 advantage. The bench contributed 27 points, supporting the team’s effort despite the defeat.
