Jackson State Women Defeat UAPB 63-59 Behind Cotton and Wilkinson

Jackson, Miss. — Jaileyah Cotton and Angel Wilkinson scored a combined 38 points to lead Jackson State to a 63-59 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday night.

Cotton finished with 20 points and five assists, while Wilkinson added 18 points and five steals. Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua contributed nine points, 11 rebounds, and three steals for the Lady Tigers. Tcheuhchoua also grabbed five offensive rebounds, helping Jackson State secure second-chance opportunities that contributed to its offensive effort.

The Lady Tigers’ defense held UAPB to 37 percent shooting from the field, including 30 percent from three-point range. They also limited UAPB’s Indiya Bowen to 3-of-13 shooting and nine points.

Jackson State (12-17, 10-7 SWAC) built an early lead, going on a 7-0 run in the first quarter to take a 16-11 lead, which they maintained through the period. They extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring UAPB 17-6 to lead 33-14 at halftime. The Tigers knocked down three three-pointers in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 46-38 edge.

The Lady Tigers maintained their lead in the fourth quarter, withstanding a push from UAPB and securing the win. Jackson State scored five fast-break points in the final quarter and forced 18 turnovers overall. The team also dominated on the glass, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds.

Cotton led all scorers with 20 points, and Tcheuhchoua pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Jackson State will host Mississippi Valley State on Thursday in its regular-season finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
