Jackson State Track Sets Personal Bests at Samford Open
Jackson State’s track and field team concluded its performance at Saturday’s Samford Open with four top-three finishes and 10 personal bests, according to the school.
Senior Terrell Dixon led the Tigers with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.94 meters. Sedgwrick Pitts Jr., last week’s Southwestern Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.22 seconds.
On the women’s side, Nedgine Morancy continued her strong start to the season, capturing third in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters, a personal best. Kaylin Jackson also finished third in the 800-meter race, clocking in at 2:19.53.
In addition to these top performances, eight other Tigers posted personal bests across various events. Pitts Jr. improved in the 60-meter dash, while Ronald Huddleston did so in the 60-meter dash. Korbin Lewis set a personal best in the pole vault, and Robert Salhab III in the shot put.
Rickey Green II also set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, as did Kayla Williams in the prelims and finals of the hurdles. Brynesha Bourrage achieved her best time in the 400-meter race, and Lorine Jelagat in the 3,000-meter run.
The Tigers will take a two-week break before returning to Birmingham for the Green and Gold and UAB Invitational on Feb. 6 and 7, according to the school.
