Jackson State Tops Tougaloo 13-6 in Midweek Baseball Game
Jackson State broke open a close game with a seven-run fifth inning to beat Tougaloo 13-6 Tuesday night at Braddy Field. The Tigers, now 15-18, scored two runs in the first two innings to take an early lead. Tougaloo tied the game in the fourth on a two-run homer by Lekeidric Sutton.
Jackson State responded with a big fifth inning, scoring seven runs to take a 9-2 lead. The Tigers extended their advantage to 13-5 in the eighth inning. They maintained the lead through the final innings to secure the win.
Tyshon Patty led the Tigers’ 13-hit attack, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Diego Melendez added two hits in three at-bats, with a run scored and an RBI. Pierre Cabral hit his seventh home run of the season. Asafa Jones and Parker Winfield each contributed two hits.
Trae Burton earned the win in relief, working 1.1 innings and allowing three runs on one hit with four strikeouts. Kade Walker, Shemar Harris, and Christian Delgado combined to pitch the final 3.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits. Manuel Toro started for Jackson State, pitching four innings and giving up two runs on two hits.
Jackson State continues its home stand with a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Florida A&M beginning Friday night.
