Jackson State to Open 2026 Season at Home with Doubleheader Against Tougaloo
Jackson State will host Tougaloo on Tuesday afternoon for its season opener at home after seven games on the road. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on SWACTV.
Leading the Tigers at the plate is senior infielder Ledy Alvarez, who sports a .364 batting average with a .481 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging percentage. Alvarez has collected eight hits in 22 at-bats, scored six runs, driven in two, and has two doubles, according to team stats.
Other top performers include Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr., a junior catcher, who is batting .375 with a .615 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. He has played in five games, going 3-for-8 with a double and two walks. Senior outfielder Tyree Reed has seven hits, including a double and triple, and has scored five runs while driving in four.
Offensively, Diego Melendez, a junior infielder, has seven hits in seven games, scoring five runs. On the mound, junior pitcher Derek Arrocha has a 2-0 record, pitching 13 innings with six earned runs allowed, 11 hits given up, and 15 strikeouts. Junior reliever Jaedeyn Edwards has recorded two saves in four appearances, allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts over 7.2 innings. Senior Christian Delgado has pitched 8 innings out of the bullpen, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.
