Jackson State Tennis Wins Two Matches Behind Vaquero and Hung-Yu
JACKSON, Miss. — Jackson State’s men’s tennis team rallied at home Saturday, beating Xavier of Louisiana. Jhoan Vaquero and Chen Hung-Yu led the way with two wins apiece.
Vaquero teamed with Federico Pickenstainer to defeat Emmanuel Jebutu and Samy Dahmany 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles match. Hung-Yu and Ching Chang Chiu secured the doubles point with a 7-6 victory.
In singles play, Vaquero upset Jebutu in a three-set match, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Hung-Yu also earned his second victory of the day, beating his opponent 6-4, 6-2. Fabrizio Fallas completed the Tigers’ win with a three-set victory at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 4-1.
Jackson State improved to 2-4 this season. The team will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for its first SWAC Pod of the season on March 7-8, facing Southern and Alabama State.
