Jackson State tennis falls to Mississippi College in home opener
Jackson State dropped a 4-3 decision to Mississippi College in its home opener Monday at the JSU Tennis Complex.
The Tigers lost the doubles point but responded with three singles victories. Victoria Linkovski, Helen Hernandez and Tiara Alvarez each won their matches in three sets to secure points for the team.
Linkovski, a freshman, defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1 on court 2. Hernandez, a junior, won a 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 match at the fifth position. Alvarez, a freshman, completed the Tigers’ singles wins with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at the sixth spot.
Alvarez and Daniel Tovar each contributed four points in doubles play, the team-highs for Jackson State in that category.
Jackson State will continue its home stand with matches against North Alabama and Co-Lin on Friday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
