Jackson State Softball Completes Undefeated Run at HBCU Classic

Jackson State’s softball team finished the HBCU Softball Classic undefeated, winning both games on Sunday. The Tigers opened with a 17-9 victory over Bluefield State in six innings and closed with a 9-0 shutout against Claflin.

In the first game, Jackson State scored 11 runs in the third inning and collected 17 hits overall. Ten players recorded hits, and eight drove in at least one run. Avelina Mclean led the offense with a four-RBI performance, including a bases-clearing double. Courtney Little went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, a triple, and a walk, finishing with a 1.000 on-base percentage.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, responding quickly after Bluefield State scored first. Jackson State built a commanding 13-1 advantage following the third inning and maintained pressure despite late rallies from Bluefield State. Madison McDowell earned her first win of the season, pitching four innings and striking out one. Addison Jennings pitched the final two innings, striking out three.

In the second game, Jorgina Gant pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering four hits over seven innings with six strikeouts. Jackson State’s offense backed her up with consistent scoring, including home runs from Brooklyn Morris and Isabella Rivera. Morris finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a homer, and a double. Jackson State also stole six bases in the game.

The Tigers will next compete at the Eagle Hub City Classic hosted by Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, where they will face Morehead State on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Follow Jackson State Athletics for updates and coverage.
