Jackson State Opens Series With 5-1 Win Over Seattle

Jackson State took the lead early and held on for a 5-1 win over Seattle in the first game of their series Friday night at Bannerwood Park. The Tigers (8-7) jumped ahead in the first inning with a three-run home run by Pierre Cabral.

Diego Melendez added a solo shot in the fifth inning, extending Jackson State’s lead. The Tigers added an insurance run in the eighth on a bunt single by Robert Tate Jr., scoring Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. The team finished with 11 hits, and Tate went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Tyree Reed also contributed with a 2-for-4 effort and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Kade Walker earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings. Relief pitchers Jaedeyn Edwards and Derek Arrocha combined for three scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
