Jackson State men’s tennis earns first conference win with 4-0 victory over Southern
Montgomery, Ala. — The Jackson State men’s tennis team earned its first conference victory of the season Saturday, defeating Southern 4-0.
The Tigers opened the match strong in doubles play, with Federico Pickenstainer and Jhoan Vaquero winning 6-3. Ching Chang Chiu and Chen Hung Yu secured the doubles point for Jackson State with a 6-3 victory at the top spot.
In singles action, Hung Yu continued the momentum with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Zachery Byng. Senior Gokalp Ayar also contributed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the third singles position. Chiu clinched the match for Jackson State with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the final singles match.
The Tigers will face Alabama State tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a rematch of last season’s SWAC Championship.
