Jackson State Falls to Southern Miss in Narrow Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Jackson State’s tennis team lost to Southern Miss 4-3 Friday afternoon on the road.

The Tigers fell behind early after losing the doubles point but responded with three singles victories. Four of their six singles matches extended into three sets.

Tiara Alvarez earned the first point for Jackson State with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 singles spot. Mariia Iordanova rallied after dropping the first set 5-7 to defeat her opponent 6-3, 6-2. Helen Hernandez secured the final point for the Tigers with a three-set victory at No. 5, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
