Jackson State fell behind early and lost its Southwestern Athletic Conference game to Texas Southern 17-6 on Friday afternoon in Houston. The Tigers struggled to contain the Tigers’ offense, which scored early and often.

Robert Tate Jr. went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, and Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. also finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Jackson State. Payton Boines added his second home run of the season, but the team couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

The Tigers extended their lead throughout the game, with Shaun Williams hitting a three-run homer in the seventh inning to cap the scoring.
