Jackson State Baseball Blanks Alabama A&M 11-1 in First Game of Series
Jackson State’s baseball team opened its series against Alabama A&M with an 11-1 victory Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama. All nine starters reached base safely, and the Tigers scored early and often to secure the win.
Brooklyn Morris earned the win for Jackson State (11-11, 3-2 SWAC), pitching five innings and allowing one run on five hits. He struck out five and walked three. Morris also contributed offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jace Jackson added a triple and two RBIs while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Ka’Liyah Gipson also had a strong game, collecting three hits in four at-bats and driving in an RBI.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning before erupting for seven runs in the top of the second, highlighted by Morris’s two-run double and Jackson’s two-run triple. Jackson State extended its lead to 8-0 before Alabama A&M scored its lone run. The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth to make it 11-1, which stood as the final score.
Jackson State out-hit Alabama A&M 12-5 and went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position. The Bulldogs struggled offensively, going 1-for-6 in such situations. Jackson State pitchers faced 22 batters, striking out five and issuing nine walks. Destiny King led Alabama A&M at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort. Josefina Lacalle pitched five innings for the Bulldogs, allowing five runs.
The second game of the doubleheader ended in an 8-8 tie after eight innings and will be resumed April 17 at JSU’s softball field. The Tigers will next play Tuesday in Hammond, Louisiana, against Southeastern Louisiana, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
