Hinds Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Top-Ranked Parkland
RAYMOND, Miss. — The Hinds Community College softball team split a doubleheader against Parkland College on Thursday at Rene T. Warren Field. The Lady Eagles won the first game 4-2 before falling in the second game 4-3, according to school officials.
In the opener, Hinds scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Addison Galloway drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double by Alyx Hall. Emma Hudson reached on a fielder’s choice, and both she and Hall scored following an error by Parkland. Mackenzie Smith added an RBI groundout, capping the four-run inning.
Claire Mellard pitched a complete game for Hinds, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three. Mellard improved to 6-0 this season, school officials said.
Game two was more challenging for the Lady Eagles. They drew six walks but fell 4-3. Galloway scored again after a leadoff walk, and Hudson and Hall scored on errors in the third inning. Xiomara Fireplace hit a triple and later scored on an RBI single by Adyson McKnight. Abby McLean started for Hinds, striking out six over six innings. Jazmin Robertson pitched in relief in the seventh, allowing one run and recording a strikeout, officials added.
With the split, Hinds moved to 10-1 overall. The Lady Eagles host No. 10 Kirkwood on Friday at 2 p.m., according to athletic department officials. Fans can follow updates on @HindsAthletics on Twitter and Instagram and on Facebook.
